Penn and Teller BS: Organic Food Myths Debunked (Excerpt)

This blog project is dedicated to convincing people to be organic. However, I find it necessary to provide to the readers the other side of story. Of course, it is up to the viewer what they choose to eat. This post is not meant to rebel against this blogging project. It is equally important to view the argument of the opposition. But they do bring up some interesting points worthy of discussion.

WARNING!!! This does have foul language!!!

If you would like to avoid the language, here's the list of the points they make.

  1. Organic crops require more acreage than nonorganic.
  2. Organic foods do contain pesticides as well.
  3. 20% of our organic food is from CHINA. And there's no regulation of labelling where organic food is from.
  4. The American Cancer Society stated there's no evidence that pesticide residue can cause any type of cancer.
  5. Organic food doesn't contain more nutrients than nonorganic.
  6. If the world completely switched to organic farming, then 2-3 billion people would die of starvation.

Watch or Die.

  1. Interesting to see both sides of an argument. I wonder what the organic side could fire back with.

  2. Fire back: Organic food is definitely labeled; that's a crock. Organic crops require more acreage b/c they're real crops, usually planted next to other crops for biodiversity. Check your research on pesticide and cancer. Lots of research out there to debunk that. I would say that nutrient value is the same, but remember taht many/most of our foods are ENRICHED, which means that they add the nutrients to them after they've stripped them of them during growth and harvesting. The world is in trouble with GMO crops right now; our reserves are at their lowest in YEARS. Organic (meaning regular)farming has been done for centuries; #6 is a scare myth. I'm still laughing at CHINA. My organic potatoes do not come from China...
